Many people wonder about the connection between yoga and kayaking. Both are very physical, but at the same time they are both about being centered and in the moment. During yoga practice we breath and stay conneceted to the moment. Kayakers may not realize it, but they too stay centered and in the moment. Think about the last time you had to catch an eddie or were surfing, or even doing some rescues. Yes, you were in the moment. And how much does increased range of motion help with paddling. As kayak instructors what is the number one thing we say "ROTATE" and as yoga teachers we say exhale to deepen the twist. Almost forgot, both can be relaxing or extremly stimultaing your choice. Being a teacher of both, I consider myself the luckiest man on the planet. Now if I could just make a living to this.
Open House
We had our first open house at Every Body's Yoga studio in Green Bay, WI this past Saturday. Wow, what a great day, over 60 people stopped in to see the studio and take classes. Many people were new to yoga, Pilates and Tai Chi, while others were seasoned practitoners. Being a new studio this was very exciting for all the teachers. Much of the advertising for yoga studios is by word of mouth and I am certain all of the people who came will say great things about us. I was lucky enough to teach a shortened version of one of my "Happy Hour" Classes. It is always a thrill to see people having fun doing a challening flow class to rock and roll music. Many of the newbies got into poses they never thought possbile, how powerful is that. Laughter yoga, chair/gentle yoga, Tai Chi and Pilates were all provided through out the day. Tai Chi seemed to generate more interest than Pilates. I would appreciate your thoughts on that one.
